Damaged Cyberman

I know I said I didn't like the design of these things up, but you know what, damaged cyberman. It's one of the harder to find figures in the series and it was for sale, loose, for $10. So it was a deal, but you know...

Because CYBERMAN!

Yeah, so basically I saw it in person and realized that the design isn't that bad. And I love me some cybermen.

Victory of the Daleks set

The big draw of this set for me was the Ironside Dalek holding a tea tray. That is awesome. And it is. Meanwhile I'm pleasantly surprised by the Winston Churchill figure. When you see it in person, well it looks amazingly like the actor who portrayed him. (But not if you put on his glasses accessory, which come separately and have always been my least favorite type of accessory ever since the Ned Flanders figure from Playmates. Seriously, just attach them to the head sculpt.

Especially since the set came with 2 head sculpts to swap out. Also some phones for Churchill to call people on.

For a big figure, Churchill's lower body has no articulation, but I'm okay with that. Not like the character fits on any of the chairs in the playsets. Also, his body is perfectly balanced the way it is. And instead you do get an alternate hand to have him do the "Victory" signal with his hands. Also, his waist has a cut joint if you want him to turn around.

Lego Friends Picnic

So truthfully, I've always wanted to check out the figures in the Lego Friends line, but never wanted to pay the prices they demand. Fortunately this set was Target Valentine's day polybag, which means now it's 50% off, or something like that, and only costs around $1.

So sure, let's check it out. The Lego building part of the set is a bit disappointing, certainly not worth the price it originally commanded. The minifigure, I'm not sure about it yet. It's not horrible, but misses the novelty/nostalgia value of the classic minifigure design. But the big thing I head about these figures is that the hair/hats are interchangeable. So let's look into that.

Still uncertain. I'm not feeling a great desire to pick up more of these.

Princess Peach

So I got back from the Doctor Who convention, but let's not talk about the toys I bought there and instead talk about how when I got back and went to Toys R Us I saw K'Nex figures for New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Most of the new figures are repaints, Mario & Luigi in Player 2 costumes, different color Yoshis, and the blue and yellow Toad guys. But more importantly, they made a new Princess Peach figure.

It's not perfect. Unlike the other figures, all attempts at pretending this is a building block figure is gone. Seriously, no legs. Just this.

And dig the way the figure is assembled.

Still, new K'Nex minifigure in the Mario line. Gotta get it.

Amy Pond

I actually got this as a Christmas present, so I didn't buy it, so there's no reason for me to explore why I bought it, but hey, finally filled out my Character Building version of the series 5-7 TARDIS crew. Also, I'm at a Doctor Who convention this weekend, so it seemed appropriate.

Hugo and Heihachi

A toys R Us exclusive pack from the Street Fighter X Tekken line of minimates, I only picked up this set because 1) Heihachi is one of the few Tekken characters I can recognize (used fairly effectively as both a comedic and dramatic character) and 2) Hugo is one of the bad guys from the Final Fight video game that was eventually inserted into the Street Fighter games. And I love the idea of Final Fight minimates.

There's also a Rolento minimate that comes with a bear from Tekken, but I don't really like the bear design and was never a fan of Rolento... or even knew who he was when I first saw him in a street fighter game. (And what I remember about him from the Final Fight games was that he was a frustrating enemy to fight. So screw him.)

I really hope we get some more awesome Street Fighter/Final Fight minimates from these lines.

Coming soon: Paymobil on this blog

My friend just gave me this, so I know what I'll be writing about this December. But until then, I think we need to bridge the last Playmobil Advent Celendar to this one. And I think I've already explained why I buy Playmobil figures, so from now on, whenever I post about Playmobil on this blog, it'll be part of the ongoing continuity of Ben and his makeshift family.

Lego Minifigures series 9

So here's the four figures I picked up from Series 9. I'm not planning on picking up any others. Let's go over why I chose these 4:

Man in Chicken Suit: Unique minifigure torso that replaces the arms with wings. Also, I like the minifigures that are supposed to be people in ridiculous costumes.

Jekyll/Hyde: I really like the minifigures of classic horror monsters.

Roman Senator: Historical minifigures are also pretty neat, especially when you step away from the last 300 years of history and go further back.

Gypsy: I actually got this one because it fits my mission to collect the minifigures in these series which are actually crude cultural stereotypes that betray Lego's sad lack of cultural sensitivity in a modern age.

AMP Episode 65: Poop

Episode 65 of the Articulated Monster Podcast is up now. We made Mario host again and ended up spending almost the entire episode talking about the previews that have been released in anticipation of Toy Fair.

Check it out:
