Cylon Raider

Have you ever had a day when you go to a toy store, walk around, don't see anything you MUST BUY, but still feel a nagging in the back of your head that you should get something. You went out of your way to make the trip, you've got some money to burn, you haven't gotten anything new in a while, and you want to justify the fact that you're a collector in some way. Also, you're surrounded by toys. So you look around and find something that you kinda want, something you've been on the fence about for a while but never bit the bullet and purchased.

I'm sure it's indicative of some sort of sickness. I bet that's the first step to being on the show Horders or its bad TLC knockoff.

So what I'm saying is that the Cylon Raider will end up being my version of the mummified flat cat under a ton of empty boxes. (Incidentally, I do throw most of my packaging away, unless it looks awesome, in which case it goes into a tub of flattened, empty packaging... Yeah... Hoarders... But at least I throw away the plastic bits.)

I mean, as I've mentioned before: I never really watched Battlestar Galactica, but I have enough minimates to justify giving the series its own Tag. So why would I get a Battlestar Galactica vehicle?

Because it's a ship designed to look like the face of the Cylons from the old series and that is adorable. Also, the minimate is a killer robot painted gold. I'm a sucker for an absurd robot toy and this is two of them...

So maybe I won't end up on Hoarders after all. I just need to... uh...

Huh.

Tigh & Captivity Six

So according to wikipedia these fellows are Colonel Tigh, a military man who was forced to kill his wife for betraying humanity to the android Cylons, and Captivity Six, a captured Cylon that Tigh would interrogate to alleviate his guilt and eventually impregnated during a mutually masochistic relationship. She miscarried and he got back together with his resurrected wife after both realized they were both Cylons with an independent agenda to save humanity.

Man that Battlestar Galactica show sounds weird. I bet it makes sense to someone who watches it all the way through, but to someone who has never seen the show... man. But the minimates are cheap and on clearance, so hey, why not buy them. And I watch Doctor Who, so who am I to judge.

Action Ranger Timmy, that's who.

Judge judge judge.

Ellen & Simon

So these guys are from the rebooted Battlestar Gaactica series. Since I never really watched Battlestar Galactica, the only thing I can tell you about these guys was that their box was $2.50 and I like paying cheap prices for minimates. Okay, I'm a nerd., I can tell you a bunch of crap about these characters because I got bored and wikipediaed the whole series, but it's all third hand knowledge and you know what, some of these things get to be short.

Actually, one question. The coloring of Ellen's feet makes it look like she's barefoot. Did that actually happen in the series? That's not the kind of thing they explain on Wikipedia  unless it was a plot point. That's the main problem with wikipedia. Well that and its incredibly high levels of unreliability.

Leoben & Starbuck

I admit, I only got this because it was two minimates for $2.50 at Toys R' Us. I don't know anything about Leoben and the only thing I know about this Starbuck is that I've got a nerd crush on the actress for her performance on a Futurama episode. Okay, not entirely true, I've read synopsis of all the episodes, but I've only seen one.

Either way, the only comments I've got here are that the Leoben is a boring minimate and that the "half-on" flight suit sculpt kinda sucks since it means you don't get a proper "civilian clothes" minimate or a full "flight suit" minimate, just some weird hybrid.

Although, how hilarious is it that the level of detail on Leoben and Starbuck are so disparate? Minor character: Let's put so many lines and details on his face that he looks just like the actor. Main character: slap two eyes and a mouth on it. Done!

Cannon Centurion Cylon & Lieutenant Boomer

So I'm not really a fan of Battlestar Galactica. Mostly because I've made a conscious effort not to watch the episodes because I'm afraid of getting sucked into another series. Maybe when Lost is over I'll get the DVDs. Actually, to tell the truth, I've watched 2 episodes of the BSG series, the last two episodes. I knew what was going on because even though I haven't watched the show, I have researched it using wikipedia.

That's just how I roll.

But since I'm not a fan, why get these figures? Well for one thing, they were on sale. $2 for 2 minimates. Good deal. But in addition to that, these are good looking minimates. The costume detail on Boomer is good, and the likeness is fairly well done. That's a plus, because I've not been impressed with the other designs in the BSG minimate line. They mostly look like generic males and females with a tenuous resemblance to the original actors. It's why I didn't get the Adama minimate despite my strong desire for an Edward James Olmos minimate.

Will I get any more from this series? Maybe, if they're really cheap and the costume design looks good. Otherwise, probably not.

And the Cylon design is pretty impressive/cool.
