Skylanders Swap Force

Black Friday price matching has all Skylanders Swap Force sets at $37 at WalMart so I picked it up. So far the figures are decent and the game is the same as its always been. I am worried that the magnet gimmick may fail one day, rendering all figures unusable, but for now I'm enjoying it. It's 100 times better than Disney Infinity in the sheer scope of what its trying and in terms of sheer videogaming fun.

Although, I must admit that right now the biggest thrill has been WashBuckler, voiced by John DiMaggio, saying "8 legs, no pants."

    1. Undead roller-derby girl and living cartoon style bomb are my two favorites this time around. Also: boxing animal ghost.

  2. 100 times better? IMO, Disney Infinity has the advantage with their ToyBox mode. Instead of being a game that is "just the same as its always been" Infinity allows you to create your own racetracks, mazes, side scrolling games, top view games as well as online multi player! (A huge feature lacking in Swap Force)
Infinity is what "sheer videogaming fun" is all about

    1. The problem with Disney Infinity is that so much of it feels repetitive. Skylanders (or at least Skylanders Giants) has figured out how to make the repetitive combat work, which it has too because the replay bility is crucial to a game where you might have to play the same level 40 times, each as a dfferent character.

And, Infinity gives me motion sickness every time I play it.

Also, I enjoy narrative storytelling in my gaming experience, which Disney Infinity fails to do properly. The Game Worlds have little in the way of compelling storylines and instead turn into mindless collectathons, fetch quests and repetitive fight mechanics. There's promise in Disney Infinity. the Incredible game world was great fun because it had a sense of stakes and the narrative was built around the combat mechanic, but the Mosnters University and Pirates games lacked the same focus. And as for Toy Box mode, it is fun to play around with, but it needs a way to build a narrative so people can share stories and create their own fully formed DLC, not just some minigames. I dunno, maybe I'd feel different if I played Infinity Multiplayer, but I don't.
